Technical Assistance Projects


  • Assistive Technology
    Children with disabilities sometimes need and are entitled to special equipment and services to ensure that they have access to a free and appropriate education (FAPE).

  • Illinois Service Resource Center
    The Illinois Service Resource Center is the coordination center for a wide variety of services tailored specifically for children who are deaf or hard of hearing and exhibit behavioral, emotional or mental health challenges.

  • Illinois State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG)
  • Illinois RtI Network:
    The I-RtI Network is a SPDG initiative of ISBE and is administered under a multi-year grant awarded to Lee/Ogle Regional Office of Education 47 in June 2011. The overarching goal of this initiative is to:  Improve the learning and performance of all students in grades K-12 by building the capacity of Illinois public school districts and schools to develop, use, and sustain a multi-tiered system of research-based curricula, instruction, intervention, and assessment.  The services of the Network primarily involve the delivery of high quality professional development based on adult learning principles and consisting of training, technical assistance, and coaching.   • Illinois IHE Partnership:
    The Illinois Institutes of Higher Education (IHE) Partnership is another SPDG initiative of ISBE and is operated under a multi-year grant awarded to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in June 2011. The Partnership works with nine participating universities with educator preparation programs to:  1) facilitate incorporation of critical RtI content into undergraduate and graduate educator pre-service program curricula, 2) increase options for undergraduate and graduate student field experiences in school sites where RtI practices are in place and implemented with integrity, and 3) forge collaborative relationships with Illinois school districts to facilitate the placement of highly qualified general and special education teachers in low performing districts with high populations of students from low income backgrounds.   • Illinois Statewide Technical Assistance Collaborative (ISTAC) new
    The Illinois Statewide Technical Assistance Collaborative (ISTAC) provides professional development and technical assistance supports to public school districts across the state. ISTAC’s goal is to improve outcomes for all students, with a focus on building the capacity of Illinois school districts to meet the needs of students with disabilities, within the overall context of school improvement. ISTAC services promote wellness and prevention, a multi-tiered system of supports and collaborative family and community partnerships. Content is concentrated in the areas of educational environment, school climate and culture, student behavior, stakeholder engagement, transition planning and other special education mandates. High quality trainings modules, focused on evidence-based best practices within the context of a multi-tiered system of supports, are available to all schools. Technical assistance to support this learning is provided to ISBE-identified districts through an array of modalities and graduated levels of intensity, from consultation to ongoing coaching and based on district data. All ISTAC technical assistance utilizes a coaching and support network model, focused on systems change that supports sustainable implementation of evidence-based practices, and employs data collection and analysis for ongoing progress monitoring and data-based decision making.

    Project Reach provides technical assistance, information, and training to address the early intervention, special education, related services, and transitional services needs of children with deaf-blindness and enhance state capacity to improve services and outcomes for children and their families.
