PUBLIC SCHOOL RECOGNITION PROCESS – TIMELINES

July/August
Public School Compliance Staff of the ISBE Accountability Division update and revise the School Evaluation Instrument and corresponding School Evaluation Instrument Reference Guide. This updated information is on the ISBE web site: www.isbe.net/accountability under the PUBLIC SCHOOL COMPLIANCE link.

NO LATER THAN September 30th
Each school district must submit their Applications for Recognition to their respective ROE office via IWAS as per 23 Illinois Administrative Code, 1.20(a)(1).

NO LATER THAN October 15th
Each ROE must submit the respective Applications for Recognition for the districts in their region to ISBE via IWAS as per 23 Illinois Administrative Code, 1.20(a)(2).

In addition, The Regional Superintendent shall recommend the assignment of recognition status for each school district in their region as per the ROE Summary Report (ISBE Form 33-04).

November/December
Districts on less than “Fully Recognized” status are informed in writing that they are “Pending Further Review” or “On Probation” status.

If the district is on “Pending Further Review” status, a letter is sent to the district/school explaining they MAY ask, within 30 days after receipt of notification to this effect, for a conference at which representatives of the district will have an opportunity to discuss compliance issues with representatives of ISBE as per 23 Illinois Administrative Code, 1.20(d).

If the district is “On Probation” the State Superintendent shall schedule a conference with the superintendent of the respective district. Representatives of the district will discuss compliance issues with representatives of the Illinois State Board of Education. Within 60 days following this conference, the school district shall submit to the ROE and the State Superintendent’s office a corrective action plan that conforms to the requirements of 23 IAC 120(f). This corrective action plan must be signed by the secretary of the local board of education as evidence that the board has adopted a resolution authorizing its submission as per 23 Illinois Administrative Code, 1.20(e).

December
Certificates of Recognition are sent to all schools/districts that are “Fully Recognized.”

January/February
Certificates of Recognition are sent to schools/districts whose recognition status is “Pending Further Review” or “On Probation” status.
