Beginning with the spring 2006 administration, the mathematics
ISAT contains two short-response items and one extended-response
item that contribute a total of 15% to a student’s mathematics
ISAT score. The two short-response items contribute a total of
5%, and the one extended-response item contributes 10% to the scale
score. Multiple-choice, short-response, and extended-response scores
all contribute to produce one scale score. Scale scores determine
a student’s performance level in terms of one of the following
categories: Exceeds Standards, Meets Standards, Below Standards,
or Academic Warning. Scores earned on short- and extended-response
items alone are not associated with a performance level.

During the first two years of the mathematics ISAT, spring 1999
and spring 2000, extended-response items were not used in the calculation
of students’ scores. From the spring 2001 until the spring
2005 administration, results from the two extended-response items
for each grade contributed a total of 15% to a student’s
mathematics ISAT score. Multiple-choice and extended-response scores
both contributed to produce one scale score. Scale scores determine
a student’s performance level in terms of one of the following
categories: Exceeds Standards, Meets Standards, Below Standards,
or Academic Warning. Scores earned on extended-response items alone
are not associated with a performance level.
