PARCC Primer

2015 Archive

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois PTA are helping educators, students and parents prepare for the new Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) assessments by offering tools and resources to help familiarize them with the test. ISBE has packaged these resources for schools in two turnkey formats: the PARCC Primer and the PARCC Primer: Technology and the Test.

The PARCC Primer is designed to be informal and fun and should create a welcoming environment for families to learn more about this spring’s assessment and current teaching and learning strategies in English language arts and math. Participants will get a chance to take some sample PARCC test items on a computer.

The PARCC Primer: Technology and the Test format provides participants a hands-on experience with the technological features of the assessments before they take an actual practice test that provides them with a score.

In order to make planning easy, all necessary instructions and documents for hosting and conducting both events are available on this web page. Materials are divided under each event as “Documents for Educators.” An exhaustive list of handouts for parents is listed under the tab, “Handouts for Parents.” These handouts can be used for either event and schools may select the handouts that are most relevant to their parent communities. Not all handouts will be necessary for all PARCC Primer events.
