ISBE DELL e-Broadcast 2007.79 Item Writing Course -
The Deadline for Nominations is December 1, 2007
Dear Educators Serving English Language Learners:
The Illinois State Board of Education in partnership
with WIDA and the Center for Applied Linguistics is seeking
6 pairs of teachers (a general education teacher and
a bilingual/ESL teacher) from various grade levels in
Illinois to participate in the Item Writing Course for
ACCESS for ELLs®.
This year we are encouraging teachers to sign up as
pairs--a content/general education teacher and an ESL/bilingual
teacher, preferably from the same school--so that we
have the benefit of both perspectives, and the teachers
have the benefit of working with a partner. While priority
will be given to pairs or teams, we will also accept
individual applicants.
This online-graduate level course would allow participating
teachers the opportunity to:
- delve more deeply into the WIDA Standards
- learn about the construction of large scale
language assessments
- learn to craft test folders and items, and
- contribute real classroom-based items for
ACCESS.
Participating teachers would receive 2 graduate credits
from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. These credits
would be transferable to any institution.
Interested applicants are encouraged to fax their application
to Bill Garcia by 12:00 p.m. on December 1, 2007.
The fax number for the Division of English Language
Learning is 312-814-8636.
Following a review of applications by Division Administrator
for English Language Learning, interested teachers will
be contacted. Due to the high interest and inclusion
of teacher pairs, ISBE cannot guarantee that all nominations
will be accepted to this year’s course.
