We are pleased to announce that our Annual Bilingual Program Directors’ Meeting will be held September 10-11, 2014 in Lisle, IL. Please review the memo below for more information and for registration details.

Community and Family

The Division of English Language Learning (DELL) at the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is hosting two Parent Engagement workshops titled Engaging Families of English Learners: Enhancing Home-School Communication on English Language Development on October 4, 2014 (in Spanish) and October 18, 2014 (in English).  Both workshops will cover the same topics, just presented in two different languages.  The workshop will begin at 8am and adjourn at 4pm; it will be held in Oak Brook, IL.

Workshop Description

This interactive workshop brings together two critical stakeholders in the education of English learners: parents and educators.  The purpose of the workshop is to build local capacity around ways to enhance communication with families of English learners about English language development.  The presentation is structured in a way that will allow opportunities for collaborative discussions between parents and educators, along with small group sessions that cater to each group. 

After completing the workshop, participants will be able to:

You are invited to nominate participant teams to attend; application form is attached to this letter.  Each team should include 1-3 parent leaders and 1-2 district staff (EL staff, program directors, parent liaisons, and building administrators).
