Illinois
Educator Identification Number (IEIN)
We have
just implemented an Illinois Educator Identification Number
(IEIN) for all educators in the TCIS/OTIS database.
This number is a sequential number that is assigned to each educator
as they are entered into our certification system. This
number does not replace the need for the social security
number at this time, however it does
provide ISBE with a way to identify teachers to outside entities
without using the educators social security number.
This
new IEIN is being displayed on the TCIS Inquiry screen and the
OTIS Personal Data screen. TCIS has been enhanced to allow
an educator lookup by IEIN on the Inquiry screen. Other
screens in TCIS will be modified to display this number in the
near future. OTIS has been enhanced to also display the
educators IEIN in their private account under the Personal
Data menu. See screen samples below.
The
first application for this new IEIN is the transmission of Desire2Learn
(D2L) test scores for the certification of educators to administer
the ACCESS for ELLs test, which will begin late
this summer. Educators who are being trained to administer
this test are being told to access OTIS to retrieve their IEIN
which will be used to login to the Desire2Learnn online testing
system. D2L will then transmit the test scores to ISBE and
if the test is passed OTIS will display that the educator is qualified
to administer the ACCESS for ELLs test.
