Lapsed Certificate Information
105 ILCS 5/21-14. Registration
and renewal of certificates
All certificates not renewed
or registered as herein provided shall lapse after a
period of 5 years from the expiration
of the last year of registration.
Such certificates may
be reinstated for a one year period upon payment of all
accumulated registration fees.
Such reinstated certificates
shall only be renewed:
- by earning 5 semester hours of
credit in a recognized institution of higher learning
in the field of professional
education or
in courses related to the holder's contractual
teaching duties; this may be any college coursework*
or
- by presenting evidence of holding a valid
regular certificate of some other type.
Please note: After registration fees have been paid,
lapsed certificates will be reinstated for one fiscal
year with
the fiscal year ending the immediate June 30th
following reinstatement.
Therefore, applicants seeking to reinstate a certificate
close to the end of the fiscal year may consider
waiting until July
1st to reinstate. In this way, the applicant may
have a longer period of time to complete the reinstatement
requirements.
*Coursework requirements must be
completed during the fiscal year of reinstatement
or within the previous
five years
prior to reinstatement.
