Paraprofessional Approvals
The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) standards require paraprofessionals
working in Title I funded positions to have, at a minimum,
60 semester hours of college credit or an associate’s
degree from a regionally accredited institution. Proof of
completion of a high school program is also required. Applicants
who do not have 60 semester hours of credit from accredited
institutions may complete paraprofessional requirements by
taking one of two paraprofessional examinations: the ETS Parapro
or the ACT Workkeys.
The Illinois Community College Board has information regarding
paraprofessional preparation along with links to testing sites
and dates. These items can be accessed by logging onto the
following website:

NCLB paraprofessional requirements may also be met, in part,
by an accumulation of Professional Training Points (PTPs).
