Technology Immersion Pilot Project
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has released a
continuing application for the state Fiscal Year 2008 (FY08)
Technology Immersion Pilot Project (TIPP). Within the limits
of the law, those districts which were funded in FY07 should
request wireless laptops for students, teachers, and relevant
administrators identified for Year Two participation. Following
the FY07 expenditure guidelines, applicants may apply for
additional hardware and software. Requests must be made in
accordance with the program-specific guidelines included with
the application. Funding of these FY08 grants is contingent
upon the final FY08 appropriation.
In the first year of the Pilot Project more than 2200 students
in seventeen Illinois schools were furnished with laptop or
tablet PCs for use in the classroom as well as at home. Additionally,
over 300 teachers and administrators received the same equipment
to better facilitate the use of technology in the process
of teaching and learning. Reports from participating districts
relative to Year One of the Pilot Project are currently being
reviewed. Early indicators, however, show that the increased
access to technology within Pilot Project schools is having
a positive impact on participating teachers and students as
they embrace a whole new way of learning utilizing
leading computer technology.
