Assessments

English Language Arts Classroom Assessments Aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards

The assessments are coded according to learning standard and stage. Example: 1A.B is aligned to standard 1A, stage B (second grade). Sample student work, when available, follows the assessment.

1A.B - Selection of Menu Foods and Miscue
Analysis
PDF File

Read items on a restaurant menu and identify samples of foods that have to be cooked before they can be eaten, applying all of the following word analysis and vocabulary skills.

1B.B - The Best Poster Activity PDF File
After reading to find information to respond to questions about a given topic, prepare a poster that displays the facts and details from the readings.

1C.B - Say It Like a Character PDF File
Retell a story by role-playing a character’s part and describe that character’s feelings and actions.

2A.B - Compare and Chart the Stories PDF File
Develop the same story element description for two different versions of a story and compare them.

2B.B - That Reminds Me PDF File
Interpret how a story character’s problem is similar to a personal life experience.

3A.B - Write a Description PDF File
Compose simple sentences for a picture’s description.

3B.B - Writing Portfolio Sample from the Author's Chair PDF File
Create and read aloud a draft of a written piece from the “author’s chair” and use the questions raised by the audience to revise the piece.

3C.B - Create a Poem PDF File
Write three simple, rhymed poems and read them with rhythm.

4A.B - Read Me a Story and Check My Listening PDF File
Listen to a reading of a classic children’s story.

4B.B - Show and Tell Speeches PDF File
Speak for two to three minutes about an object such as a pet or a toy.

5A.B - Look What I Found Out PDF File
Generate researchable questions about something observed on a field trip, locate information and write answers to the questions.

5B.B - Search and Draw PDF File
Research two questions on a science topic and draw a picture, and explain how it answers both questions.

5C.B - Field Trip Report PDF File
Deliver an oral report that communicates what was learned on a field trip.
