Assessments

English Language Arts Classroom Assessments Aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards

The assessments are coded according to learning standard and stage. Example: 1A.E is aligned to standard 1A, stage E (fifth grade). Sample student work, when available, follows the assessment.

1A.E - Unlocking New Words PDF File
Explain vocabulary words completely and accurately, using all of the following word analysis and vocabulary skills that apply.

1B.E - Reading Aloud PDF File
Read a passage aloud, using all the following strategies.

1C.E - Mobile of Information PDF File
Prepare a mobile of graphics and written interpretations of key concepts in 3 fiction and 3 nonfiction texts.

2A.E - Scrapbook of Evidence PDF File
Prepare story maps and scrapbook pages, demonstrating comprehension of four different selections of fiction.

2B.E - I’m an Author PDF File
Interpret a story by altering it with a different ending and writing five comprehension questions focusing on the changes made.

3A.E - Three Reasons Why I Want to Be PDF File
Write a multi-paragraph expository paper.

3B.E - If I Could Have Been Somebody Else PDF File
Write a well-constructed, multi-paragraph essay identifying a specific person from American history.

3C.E - Dear Abby Colonial Style PDF File
Assume the roles of a colonial young person and an adult to compose letters from each and communicate ideas.

4A.E - Listening to a Guest Speaker PDF File
Listen to a guest speaker, take notes, and write a summary of the presentation and follow-up questions.

4B.E - Let Me Convince You PDF File
Deliver a persuasive speech to nominate a favorite historical figure as “ The Greatest American Who Ever Lived.”

5A.E - Choosing the Greatest American PDF File
Nominate someone who could be considered the “Greatest American Who Ever Lived” and select resources to support a hypothesis.

5B.E - Gathering and Evaluating Sources PDF File
Evaluate 4 sources related to choosing candidates for the “Greatest American” and develop a bibliography.

5C.E - Designing Visual Support PDF File
Prepare visual aids incorporating the research-based information that will be presented in a speech.
