Foreign Language Classroom Assessments Aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards
The assessments are coded according to standard and stage. Example: 28AH is aligned to standard 28A, stage H (eighth year of language study). Sample student work, when available, follows the assessment.
Listen to a popular song and explain its theme in the target language.
Students will choose an important historical figure (past or present) of the target language culture to research. The activity will be completed in pairs.
Students will give brief news presentations which include international, national, entertainment, sports, and weather related topics
Write a social letter in the target language.
Students will research social practices common to the target language society that differ from those in the U.S. Working in pairs, students will then present an oral report based on their research.
Students will listen to a popular song several times and explain its theme.
Demonstrate understanding of two or more literary works by posing as critics summarizing the two works in a written or oral presentation.
Write information about for a historical figure associated with the target culture.
Students will research the geographical aspects of an area where the target language is spoken.
Demonstrate understanding of metrics by translating an English-language recipe into the target language.
Demonstrate knowledge of careers by role playing a job interview.
