Foreign Languages Classroom Assessments Aligned
to the Illinois Learning Standards.
The assessments are coded according to standard and
stage. Example: 28A.H is aligned to standard 28A, stage
H (eighth year of language study). Sample student work,
when available, will follow the assessment.

- Musical Moments (Spanish) 
Listen to a popular song and explain its theme in the
target language.
28B.H
- Meet the Press II 
Students will choose an important historical figure
(past or present) of the target language culture to
research. The activity will be completed in pairs.

- What's New in the News? 
Students will give brief news presentations which include
international, national, entertainment, sports, and
weather related topics

- Social Letter 
Write a social letter in the target language.

- S'more Mores 
Students will research social practices common to the
target language society that differ from those in the
U.S. Working in pairs, students will then present an
oral report based on their research.

- Musical Moments (French) 
Students will listen to a popular song several times
and explain its theme.

- Critic's Choice 
Demonstrate understanding of two or more literary works
by posing as critics summarizing the two works in a
written or oral presentation.

- Obituary 
Write information about for a historical figure associated
with the target culture.

- What? Where? Why? 
Students will research the geographical aspects of an
area where the target language is spoken.
30A.H
- Let's Cook 
Demonstrate understanding of metrics by translating
an English-language recipe into the target language.

- Job Interview Role Play 
Demonstrate knowledge of careers by role playing a job
interview.
