Stage J - Mathematics
Assessments
Mathematics Classroom Assessments Aligned to the Illinois
Learning Standards
The assessments are coded according to learning standard
and stage. Example: 6A.J is aligned to standard 6A, stage
J (eleventh & twelfth grades). Sample student work, when
available, will follow the assessment.
6B & 6C & 8A.J - Save
Your Change
Analyze the use of the annuity formula and compare it to the
two compound interest formulas accordingly. It is assumed
students have worked with and are familiar with the annuity
formula and compound interest formulas.
6C & 7B & 9D.J - River
Width
Use the Law of Sines and the Law of Cosines to determine the
indirect measurement of the width of a river.
6C & 8A & 8C.J - Investment
Plans
Write the explicit and recursive forms of the sequence of
an investment and compare the amount to the continuously compounded
interest formula for the same time period, interest and principal.
6D.J - Resistance in Wire

This task uses electrical resistance in a wire as a context
for finding the constant of proportionality and applying it
to a new situation using electrical resistance in a wire.
7A.J - Electric Hoist Problem

Relate the winding motion of an electric hoist with the circumference
of the drum to calculate distance lifted.
7B & 8C & 9D.J - Baseball
Home Run
Use parametric equations to describe the path of a hit baseball,
determine whether the hit is a home run, and evaluate the
importance of angles and the minimum velocity needed to hit
a home run.
7C & 9A.J - Gears and Wheels

Perform calculations for linear speed and angular speed.
8B.J - Art Project
Make a drawing using piecewise functions and relations from
a specified list of equations.
8B.J - Confocal Conics
Write equations and graph ellipses, hyperbolas and a parabola
that all have the same focus and vertex.
8D & 6A.J - Rational Function
Graphs
Analyze rational function graphs to make conclusions and create
an equation to fit a set of requirements.
9B.J - Circle Puzzle
Calculate the measure of an inscribed angle using the marked
tangent, a secant, chords and angles.
9C & 6B & 6C.J - Which
Quadrilateral is It?
Use coordinate geometry to prove what kind of quadrilateral
is formed when the midpoints of a quadrilateral are connected.
10A & 10B.J - Dating Practices

Create and administer a survey, analyze and present results.
10C.J - Studying for a Test

Calculate the probability of compound events.
