Stage A - Social Science
Social Science Classroom Assessments Aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards
The assessments are coded according to standard and stage. Example: 14A.A is aligned to standard 14A, Stage A (first grade). Sample student work, when available, will follow the assessment. Items indicated with (U) address United States history; (W) address world history.
Draw and label a picture of a rule/responsibility that students must follow at home, school, and in public places.
Identify and create pictures of patriotic symbols for the class to vote on a class symbol.
Describe a community workers job.
Locate on a world map a region where a current political event has happened.
Create a collage of goods and services of the past and present.
Draw pictures illustrating one example of something students can trade without money and an example of something for which money is needed.
Read a story to the class about family life in the past and have each student draw a picture about the story to illustrate the life and roles of the different family members.
Draw and color a picture of a person who is remembered on a special holiday and a picture illustrating why they are remembered in this special way.
Draw a symbol that is represented during the holiday season of December and be able to tell from which country it originated.
Read stories about life in the past and draw a picture that illustrates the life and roles of individuals and groups working together to survive.
Draw four pictures showing how the same neighborhood landscape would change during the four seasons.
Draw pictures of an outdoor scene showing a tree and the student. Label the drawing for the appropriate season.
Create a picture of a seasonal scene including a person wearing clothing appropriate to an activity in that season.
