Social Science Classroom Assessments Aligned to the Illinois
Learning Standards
The assessments are coded according to learning standard
and stage. Example: 14A.D is aligned to standard 14A, stage
D (fourth grade). Sample student work, when available, will
follow the assessment. Items indicated with (U) address United
States history; (W) address world history.
14A14F16B.D - Symbol Identification
and Interpretation 
Students will identify symbols and identify how they relate
to the Declaration of Independence and United States Constitution.
14B.D - Functions of the Three Branches
of Government 
Illustrate and summarize the functions of the three branches
of government.
14C14D.D - Candidate Comparison
Complete the Candidate Profile Form including three key campaign
issues of each of the two most recent candidates for President
of the United States.
14E.D - United Nations 
Write a brief paragraph describing the goals and objectives
of the United Nations and include an explanation as to why
the United States is a member.
15A15C.D - Classifying Resources
Create a three-column chart and classify items from a list
of productive resources into the appropriate resource category.
15A15E.D - Jobs 
Review newspaper want ads and note information about wages
and salaries.
15B15C.D - Lemonade Stand 
Plan a lemonade stand in competition with another stand and
analyze decisions from both a consumer and producer point
of view.
15D.D - A Trip to the Cafeteria
Write a description of examples of the division of labor in
the school or community.
16A16BW16DW.D - World Wide
Web Historical Timeline 
Using a T-chart, students will list six world political and
six world social events and make a timeline of the events.
16CW16EUW.D - Hunter/Gatherers
Create a chart listing how hunter/gatherer groups use the
environment for food, shelter, clothing and tools.
16C17B.D - People and the Physical
Environment of Illinois 
Gather information on how the people of Illinois from the
time of statehood to the present have used the physical environment
to meet their needs.
16DU18A.D. - Changing Roles of
Children 
Write a paper comparing and contrasting the lives of children
in the past with childrens lives today.
17A.D. - Mapping the Local Community
Draw a map to go with a set of written directions to get to
a location in a community.
17C17D.D. - Lloyd's Corner
Write a description of how a local environment has changed
over time and why these changes have occurred.
18B.D. - Types of Groups

Create a chart showing the similarities and differences among
examples of primary, secondary, and reference group members.
18C.D - Group Dynamics 
In addition to defining the purpose of various groups, students
will use pictures to further identify group affiliation and
describe group characteristics.
