Microsoft Office 2003 Updates
Microsoft Office 2003 Suite Editions and standalone software
programs such as Project 2003 and Visio 2003 are being made
available via the Microsoft Select Licensing Program starting
September 1, 2003.
Microsoft licensing skus for Office XP and standalone products
such as Visio 2002 are no longer available effective September
1, 2003. You may continue to license Office XP and standalone
2002 products by purchasing Office 2003 licenses and using
downgrade rights to deploy software for previous versions
such as Office XP or Office 2000.
Microsoft Media for the new Office 2003 Suites and standalone
products was not released for September price lists
so there is no way to pre-order or backorder Office 2003 media
for you at this time. You can purchase the Office 2003 license
in September and wait to purchase the media in October when
it becomes available. Or, you can wait until October when
the media is available and purchase the license and media
together on one purchase order.
There is now a difference in the applications you get
and the functionality of each application when you purchase
Office Pro 2003 instead of Office Standard 2003.
Only Office Pro 2003 Versions include additional support for
XML.
Only Office Pro 2003 Versions include additional support for
Information Rights Management (IRM) content creation &
authoring.
Office Standard 2003 will not include support for IRM &
XML in any applications.
Office Pro 2003 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Publisher, Outlook, Outlook with Business Contact Manager
and InfoPath through Microsoft Volume Licensing.
Office Standard 2003 includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and
Outlook only.
FrontPage 2003 is available as a standalone product only
and is not in an Office Suite.

Please note that you will see references to a Small Business
Edition of Office 2003 that includes Publisher and Outlook
w/Business Contact Manager. This product is not available
through Select and is priced at twice the price of Office
Pro through the Microsoft Academic Open License Program. Office
Pro 2003 is a better choice.
