State Board of Education makes appointments to State Teacher Certification Board |

| The
State Board of Education has reappointed three members of the State Teacher
Certification Board and appointed five others to serve three-year terms
on the Certification Board.
The State Teacher Certification Board is a statutory body established to carry out various certification provisions of the Illinois School code. The School Code designates that ten of the members shall be public school classroom teachers, three shall be public school administrators, five shall be administrative or faculty members of public or private colleges and universities and one shall be a Regional Superintendent of Schools. The State Superintendent of Education is the ex officio chairman of the State Teacher Certification Board. Reappointments include Mr. William Briggs, Herscher High School teacher, recommended by the Illinois Federation of Teachers; Dr. Roger Chamberlain, Principal of Columbia Middle School, recommended by the Illinois Principals Association; and Dr. Linda Tafel, National-Lewis University, recommended by the Illinois Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. New appointments are Dr. Barbara Eason-Watkins, Chief Educational Officer for Chicago Public Schools, recommended by Chicago Public Schools; Ms. Laura Lipe, elementary teacher in Cobden School District 17, recommended by the Illinois Education Association; and three from higher education recommended by the Illinois Association of Colleges of Teacher Education: Dr. Elliott Lessen, Dean of the School of Education of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville; Dr. Nan Giblin, Dean of the School of Education of Northeastern Illinois University; and Dr. Nina Dorsch from the Dept. of Teaching and Learning at Northern Illinois University. Members are limited to two three-year terms on the Certification Board.
