Registration is open for the 2008 Transition Conference!

The 2008 Statewide Transition Conference is being held at the Peoria Civic Center from October 27 – 29, 2008.  The conference is dedicated to encouraging the development and implementation of challenging, yet achievable, person-centered goals for young people living with disabilities. The conference is being structured to include interactive workshops that address the topics of post secondary education/training, health care, community, and employment for youth with disabilities. Conference information and registration can be accessed at http://www.cccmeetings.com/transition.pdf .

School District Assistance for Youth Focus Day: On Tuesday, October 28, the conference will have a special youth focus. A special per student fee of $50 will cover registration including meals, a conference bag and access to the Job Fair, College Fair, Internet Café and conference sessions all day on Tuesday. School districts and/or special education cooperatives should contact Sue Walter via e-mail at smwalter@charter.net or swalter@isbe.net, or via phone at 618-651-9028 to get more information about registering students and accessing the ISBE funding to support student attendance.

Transition Outreach Training for Adult Living (TOTAL) Project

In October 2002 The US Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services (OSERS) awarded the Illinois State Board of Education an IDEA Model Outreach grant to implement a multi-tiered statewide training and technical assistance package on research based best practices in secondary transition. The key focus of TOTAL was to systematically build capacity to provide state-of-the-art transition services throughout Illinois. Though the Project period ended in March 2007, the tools and resources developed under the Project are supported by the Illinois State Board of Education and continue to be accessed and implemented in school districts and special education cooperatives across the state.

The link below provides additional information about the TOTAL training modules and access to the TOTAL module videos, the power point slides, tools and resources.
