Event Details | Calendar Filter: | Workshop | Event: | Teaching Through Problem Solving K-6 | Subject: | Math | Location: | Kaskaskia College, Centralia, IL | Organizer: | Lynette Baity ROE 13 | Details: | Math education has traditionally been rooted in text-book driven, teacher-cenntric pedagogy in which the goal is to master an algorithm and find the correct answer. Teaching through Problem Solving (TtPS) shifts to task-based instruction that focuses on mathematical reasoning and allows students to explore the many different pathways to a solution. During this workshop, participants will define TtPS, analyze the need for and the benefits of this instructional shift, experience at TtPS lesson, explore resources to support TtPS, and plan a TtPS lesson for their students. Participants are asked to bring a device (laptop/chromeboook/tablet) and their classroom materials for an upcoming unit of instruction.
