Reporting to the Director, supports departmental operations through administration of state programs, staff supervision, and coordination of projects and strategic initiatives. Collaborates across Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and partner agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Director, assists in providing guidance and direction of overall operations of the department.
- Supervises staff including training and mentoring employees.
- Prioritizes and plans work assignments.
- Conducts performance evaluations of staff including providing guidance and coaching.
- Maintains strong project management and coordination between projects including providing technical assistance to Agency staff, local education agencies and program administrators.
- Oversees and administers state and federal programs.
- Coordinates the development and implementation of projects and initiatives.
- Maintains strong project management and coordination between projects, across ISBE departments, with the Illinois Department of Early Childhood, and other agencies.
- Acts as department liaison/representative of ISBE within Agency and at external committees and meetings.
- Represents and communicates ISBE priorities and positions.
- Responds to and maintains communication with other agencies and entities on collaborative projects.
- Provides technical assistance to Agency staff, local education agencies and program administrators.
- Assists in managing budgetary functions of both federal and state programs in the department.
- Creates documents, gives presentations, and produces other work products related to ISBE early childhood initiatives.
- Works with Director and other staff, as assigned, to develop a Strategic Action Plan for new and existing initiatives.
- Monitors progress towards strategic goals and metrics.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Early Child Development, or similar early childhood field, or, a Bachelor's degree in one of these fields plus two years of relevant professional experience. (COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION)
- Two years of experience (in addition to education requirements) working in the field of early childhood.
- Experience providing supervision and guidance to staff.
- Experience managing projects at the state or local level.
- Knowledge of federal and state education laws pertaining to early childhood education.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with a variety of educational stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing budgets.
- Experience in Early Childhood Special Education.
