​The Illinois State Board of Education is committed to supporting schools through school improvement. Schools should focus school improvement efforts on the whole child, utilizing multiple resources. Resources included on this website are intended to help schools and administrators explore avenues for increasing student achievement, community engagement, and building positive school culture.​​

​Equity Analysis

The Equity Analysis process involves gathering and analyzing data to identify inequities that serve as barriers to academic achievement.  It can be implemented to address issues of discipline and identification for services such as special and gifted education.  The five dimensions of the equity analysis being utilized by IL-Empower encompass Systematic Equity, Programmatic Equity, Teacher Quality Equity, Achievement Equity and Leadership for Excellence and Equity.  Consequently, an equity focus in the school improvement process will encourage an equitable, coordinated, focused school-wide approach to ensuring that all students are provided an opportunity for academic success​.​

IL-EMPOWER Pilot Year FY18

The goal of the IL-EMPOWER Pilot is to collectively design, develop and implement a structure of support that shifts ISBE’s role from an agency that does things to schools to an agency that does things with schools to address each and every student’s learning needs. To develop this structure, we are collaborating with and learning from participating districts and schools to establish a system that will work best for all students. This is a shared responsibility and opportunity to build a new statewide system of support and accountability to accomplish our vision for supporting the Whole Child-Whole School – Whole Community with a commitment to ensuring that students who need the most receives the most. ​
