The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) researched teacher apprenticeships with assistance from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL); the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO); and various additional partners, including Institutions of Higher Education Educator Preparation Programs, and the National Center for Teacher Residencies (NCTR). These partnerships enabled ISBE to develop a plan to support IHEs as they create and implement teacher apprenticeships. This page will be updated to include resources and funding opportunities as they are made available.
Teacher Apprenticeships
Through partnerships with
US Department of Labor,
Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Institutions of
Higher Education Educator Preparation Programs, and the
National Center of Teacher Residencies, ISBE has developed a plan to support Illinois Institutes of Higher Education (IHEs) in the development and implementation of Teacher Apprenticeship Programs.
At any time, institutions may engage in the development of high-quality teacher apprenticeship programs by following the steps:
- Complete the current program approval process
- Complete Apprenticeship Addendum
- Provide proof to ISBE of approval from DOL to offer and to operate a teacher apprenticeship
To access ISBE’s current program proposals visit the
ISBE website page. The Apprenticeship Addendum is also available on the under the as well as in the resources below.
