Springfield - The Illinois State Board
of Education has recently announced the winners of the two
Career Development Month Contests geared towards elementary
and middle school students. The contests are among the activities
sponsored by ISBE to celebrate February as Career Development
Month, as designated by Governor George H. Ryan.
Winners of the Illinois Elementary Hero Contest are Kaneland
Elementary South in Sugar Grove, and Grant Middle School
in Forest Park. The five regional winners of the Illinois
Multi-Media Middle School contest are Nathan Hale Middle
School in Crestwood, Percy Julian Junior High in Oak Park,
Jewell Middle School in North Aurora, Paxton-Buckley-Loda
Junior High in Paxton and Egyptian Middle School in Tamms.
An awards ceremony recognizing the winning schools will
be held at the Illinois Statehouse at 1 p.m. on Friday,
February 1, to kick off Career Development Month. Elementary
contest winners will receive a "Classroom Career Library"
with career-related resources and activities.
The middle school finalists will be selected to present
at the Illinois Student Technology Conference (ISTC) on
February 709 at the Hyatt Regency in Oakbrook. Regional
winners will also advance to the final competition on March
1, at the Association of Illinois Middle School Conference
in Glen Ellyn. Members of the top team and the faculty sponsor
will each receive a wireless Palm Pilot.
