Public Act 100-1139 (105 ILCS 5/27-23.12) requires the development of curriculum and assessment guidelines and best practices for emotional intelligence and emotional learning; therefore, the Emotional Intelligence and Social Emotional Learning Task Force was created.
The Task Force was assigned to develop age-appropriate, emotional intelligence and social and emotional learning curriculum and assessment guidelines and best practices for elementary schools and high schools. The guidelines shall, at a minimum, include teaching how to recognize, direct, and positively express emotions.
