Proviso Township High School District 209
Proviso D209 began working with the OneGoal Leadership Network in 2022, partnering with a postsecondary leadership coach who facilitated learning experiences for school and district leaders like Dr. Sharon Williams. OneGoal provided one-on-one coaching to build the district's capacity to create system-wide solutions to support postsecondary success for all students.
“Our OneGoal coach has been very persistent and has kept us on track in meeting our goals. Because of her experience as a high school leader, she understands those minute details that help us get over some humps. Developing systems for tracking data, having the experience of leading a group of counselors … it's all been very valuable. We needed someone to help us clarify our thoughts about how we should engage with and energize our counselors. And now we have an action plan that keep us on track, and she encourages us to use our time wisely in order to complete those action steps." - Dr. Sharon Williams, deputy superintendent of schools, Proviso Township High School D209
Joliet Central High School, Joliet Township HSD 204
The instructional leadership team at Joliet was roughly three years into the implementation of a comprehensive counseling curriculum when the opportunity to partner with OneGoal was presented to them. After evaluating the OneGoal curriculum and meeting with the OneGoal team, Joliet Central realized that a partnership with OneGoal could have.the potential to strengthen their existing plan.
Before Joliet partnered with OneGoal, FAFSA completion was below 50 percent, dual credit enrollment had declined to 56 percent, and almost 30 percent of students disagreed with the statement that their classes gave them useful preparation for what they plan to do in life.
“As we expand these types of initiatives like OneGoal, the question of how we support our staff in feeling comfortable is central. I don't think you'd ever find a teacher who would say 'I don't think that I play a role in helping students get ready for postsecondary success,' but then they're going to need support and training because it's still a difficult process for people to navigate, and it is constantly changing." - Jeffrey Riley, academies coordinator, Joliet Central D205
Elgin U-46
The mission of Elgin U-46 district is to “be a great place for all students to learn, all teachers to teach, and all employees to work. All means all." With six high schools and nearly 12,000 high school students, achieving their goal of equity was no small task. To advance their postsecondary outcomes and to increase college and career readiness for their students, they partnered with OneGoal.
When district leaders at Elgin U-46 evaluated their postsecondary advising and preparation program, they found that the percentage of students attending college was not meeting district goals. In fact, in a survey of students, one in five disagreed with the statement that all students are encouraged to go to college. Limited resources at the district level and inconsistency across schools further emphasized the need for Elgin U-46 to enhance collaboration and coordination of their postsecondary advising.
Lead Counselor Alexa Charsha-Hahn points to a cultural shift in the district since they began partnering with OneGoal.
“The conversations that counselors are having with students has changed, and the language we're using has helped us translate the options available to our students in really meaningful ways. "
