The Multilingual / Language Development Department, in partnership with the Data Strategies and Analytics Department, is excited to release the 2024-2025 English Learner Statistical Report. This report shares in depth data about English Learners in Illinois including program participation, languages, and achievement.
New Guidance: ISBE Guidance for English Learner Students: District Identification, Screening, and Data Submission
In response to feedback from the field and information compiled from the Multilingual / Language Development Department’s (MLDD) monitoring process, the MLDD has developed the attached guidance in partnership with the Data Strategies and Analytics Department, the Assessment Department, and the Student Information System (SIS) team. The ISBE Guidance for English Learner Students: District Identification, Screening, and Data Submission will assist districts with understanding requirements around the Home Language Survey, Screening, and related data entry into SIS.

The Multilingual/Language Development Department provides technical assistance for districts that enroll English learners (ELs). Educators and parents can find published guidance documents from the department and ISBE on this webpage. There is information about the rights ELs have to free public education, parents’ rights, refugee and immigrant student resources, world languages, and how to be more involved in a child’s education.
