​The School Breakfast Program (SBP) is a voluntary program available to all public and private schools, and residential child care institutions which agree to operate a non-profit offering breakfast meeting federal requirements to all children in attendance. The SBP is part of the National School Lunch Program.

FY 2026 School Breakfast Program Expansion Grant Opportunity

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) was awarded a School Breakfast Program Expansion Grant to provide sub-grants to Local Education Agencies (LEAs), not to exceed $10,000 per qualifying school or group of qualifying schools to establish, maintain, or expand the SBP.

Sub-grants totaling $810,000 were awarded in FY 2025. For this FY 2026 funding opportunity, ISBE expects to award up to an additional $993,620 in sub-grants to eligible LEAs with qualifying schools.

FY 2025 School Breakfast Program Expansion Grant

ISBE was awarded a School Breakfast Program Expansion Grant, which will be used to provide sub-grants to Local Education Agencies (LEAs), not to exceed $10,000 per qualifying school or group of qualifying schools to establish, maintain, or expand the SBP.
