Call for Due Process Hearing Officer Applicants

ISBE is seeking applicants for several openings as special education impartial due process hearing officers. Applicants must hold either a master’s degree or higher in education or another field related to disability issues, or a juris doctor degree. Other job requirements, as well as terms of the compensation, are listed in the cover letter/ job description linked below.

Pursuant to the Illinois School Code (see 105 ILCS 5/14-8.02a), due process hearing officers are responsible for the management and conduct of special education due process hearings throughout the state of Illinois. They serve as independent contractors exercising impartial and independent judgment in accordance with relevant provisions of federal and state special education law. Applicants will be chosen for interviews with the Illinois Due Process Screening Committee. Several finalists will be selected from the pool of interviewees to participate in a three-day orientation and initial training prior to final selection of candidates by the Screening Committee.

ISBE will be contracting with up to six new hearing officers to augment our existing corps of four hearing officers, as well as up to two others who may be willing to serve in a reserve pool.
