Thank you for your interest in becoming a sponsor of a school-based child nutrition program! School-based child nutrition programs include the following: National School Lunch, School Breakfast, Afterschool Care Snacks, Special Milk, and Illinois Free Lunch and Breakfast.
We have developed a New Applicant Checklist to assist applicants with the application process. We highly recommend that you use this checklist to first check eligibility for these programs, secondly to assist in planning your application process, and third as a way to track your progression through the application process.
Prior to applying to participate in the School Based Child Nutrition Programs, it is recommended that applicants become familiar with the different program requirements, rules, and regulations. Please view all 9 of the New Sponsor Training Modules provided below (it will take approximately 50 minutes to view all 9 modules) and read through the
ISBE Administrative Handbook.
After reviewing the above information, complete the New Applicant Form and mail or email it along with the W-9 Form to the address provided on the form. If you are a non-public entity you must also provide a copy of your federal 501(c)(3) letter along with your application materials. It is recommended that you retain a copy of the forms for your files. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact us at (800) 545-7892 or

Required Training: Thorough training regarding the requirements of the School Nutrition Programs is required for all new applicants. If there a School Nutrition Programs Orientation in-person training available, it is required that at least one staff person that oversees the SNP must attend this in-person training. Visit our List of Events page for the latest dates and locations to register.
If the School Nutrition Programs Orientation is not available prior to when you would like to start the SNP, then and only then, staff that oversee the SNP must utilize our online training modules included in the following listing.
Optional Training: ISBE has additional online training topics. If you are interested in any additional optional topic areas, please visit our Resources, Webinars and Workshops page, and click on the National School Lunch Program heading and/or the Food Distribution heading for information.
ISBE contracts with the University of Illinois Extension to provide training on a variety of topic areas related to SNP as well. Click here
