The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) includes three totally different programs for participants.
- Public, non-profit, and for-profit, nonresidential child care centers; Head Start/Early Head Start centers; preschool programs, before- and after-school hours programs; after-school programs in low income areas; and emergency shelters. This part of the program is referred to as child care centers.
- Public and non-profit institutions sponsoring family day care homes.
- The adult care portion of the CACFP is not administered by the Illinois State Board of Education. Please contact the Illinois Department on Aging at 217-782-2407 for more information on the adult portion of the program.

The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, Public Law 111-296, was signed into law on December 13, 2010. This Act eliminates the requirements for block claim edit checks and follow-up reviews related to detection of block claims in the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
Effective immediately, sponsoring organizations are no longer required to conduct edit checks designed to detect block claims as defined by 7 CFR 226.2 and required by 7 CFR 226.10(c)(3). Also sponsoring organizations are not required to meet the follow up review requirements associated with detection of block claims. Although this edit is no longer required, sponsoring organizations may, at their discretion, continue block claim edit checks.
In addition, it is important to note Federal requirements for two other sponsor-level edit checks are still in effect. The following two edit checks remain in place:
- In accordance with 7 CFR 226.10(c)(1), sponsoring organizations are required to continue to verify the provider/facility is claiming only the approved meals types.
- In accordance with 7 CFR 226.10(c)(2), sponsoring organizations must continue to compare the enrollment information, days of service and total meals claimed.
Sponsoring organizations are encouraged to review their current edit check procedures, train staff on the changes, and revise all necessary procedures. This has to be DELETED for centers- If changes are needed, please also remember to update the current management file
