In 2016, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) embarked on a significant effort to advance the work of educator preparation programs statewide by strengthening data collection, sharing, and reporting. The Partnership for Educator Preparation (PEP)—a steering committee consisting of a diverse stakeholders representing educators, principals, and higher education institutions as well as other experts throughout the state—is providing input and guidance in the process and content of ISBE’s revised accountability and program improvement system for teacher and principal preparation statewide.
The goal of this new system is to ensure all new Illinois teachers are learner-ready on day one in the classroom, and that data is used as a tool for continuous improvement to strengthen teacher preparation statewide in the long term.
Currently in Year Two of the Statewide Pilot, all 57 Illinois higher education institutions with educator, administrator, and school support preparation programs are participating by submitting data to ISBE about their candidates. In return, ISBE will share analysis reports of that data back to each institution for administrators to explore the strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement within their programs.
